Message from the Mayor:

Over the past 15 years Hugo’s population has rapidly grown to over 15,000 people and this was made possible by big picture planning efforts. Since the housing boom began, the City has grown it's parks and trail system, is home to several new businesses, and is seeing schools expand.

Hugo parks are easily accessed by trails and feature innovative recreational amenities designed for all ages. Hugo residents value our open spaces as well as our rural character and strive to be good stewards of the natural resources.

Most recently, the City has been focusing on economic development opportunities in several commercial and industrial areas. These areas include the Bald Eagle Industrial Park, Downtown, CSAH 8 corridor, and the Peloquin Industrial Park.  Business retention and expansion of existing businesses has been a goal for the City in these areas, as well as to encourage other business to locate in Hugo.  In 2012, the City earned an international award of excellence for its Business Retention and Expansion Program which the City completed through the University of Minnesota in 2010.

Hugo’s goals are accomplished with the talented volunteers/citizens on the Economic Development Authority, Parks Commission, Planning Commission, Historical Commission, and our residents who have a strong interest in the community. As Mayor, I encourage you to become active in the community through our volunteer organizations.  City staff members are happy to answer any questions you have about City services. The general phone number at City Hall is (651) 762-6300 and the Public Works Department can be reached at (651) 762-6301.

Thank You,
Mayor Tom Weidt
